However, there can be some problems with this system, because I'm distracted by my friends I feel like I get a little behind on homework because I want to be done after a certain point so I can go to the gym or dinner with them. Because of this distraction I almost missed a chemistry quiz deadline and I almost forgot to do the "Facebook and Depression" assignment.
I know a lot of people has said that balancing school and social life is the hard part of college and now I'm starting to believe it. Having a social life is important to keep your sanity but it's also important to keep up on school work. I haven't figured out this little dance yet but I'm working on it. Has anyone come up with any tricks to keep a good balance?
I would say that I have kind of experienced the same thing, although for me it is trying to balance between work and school. I have to say that choosing to live off campus was probably one of the best decisions I made. I don't have all the social interaction that the rest of you do and it allows me to focus on my schoolwork a lot more.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that you need to set priorities. I did that before beginning college, and I have found that it helps me to stick to my decisions when my employer tries to pressure me into working more hours than I can handle.
And I'm trying to say that you haven't made college a priority. Obviously you wouldn't be here if that's the case. Just remember that sometimes it is okay to barricade yourself in your room. :)
Something I was told in my orientation freshman year was to devote time during the day only to schoolwork and stick to it like a job schedule. What I did my freshman year (I was not working then so I didn't balance time around that) was strictly work on homework from 9-5. I have little breaks during the day between classes and I use those to do homework. By following this, then you get more done during the day and can hang out more during the evening with your floor and have time for the gym. Obviously if you have a busy week you will spend more time in the evening on homework. You can adjust it to your class schedule and when your breaks are but I definitely say it is something that works!
